Platform Walkthrough

Getting Started with FIRE@YovaEngg

A step-by-step walkthrough of the analytical tools, multi-asset portfolio backtesters, dynamic rebalancing rules, and financial independence engines available on the platform.

Step 1

Search, Inspect & Compare Mutual Funds

Foundation

Before assembling multi-asset strategies, explore how individual mutual funds and asset classes behave over full market cycles. Every fund on the platform is benchmarked against its designated Total Returns Index (TRI).

Finding Funds & System Symbols

Use the top navigation search bar. Live autosuggest quickly surfaces popular schemes. If your fund isn't listed in autosuggest, simply press Enter to open the full search results page with all matching schemes and their system identifiers (e.g. MF_118834 for Mirae Asset Large & Midcap, or MF_122639 for Parag Parikh Flexi Cap).

Benchmark Overrides & Comparisons

On any fund's page, open Analysis Settings to change its benchmark to any other index or fund (e.g. NIFTY, NIFTYMIDCAP150, IND-GSEC-10YR, or IND-INFLATION) to test how it fares across different hurdles.

Try exploring: Mirae Asset Large & Midcap (MF_118834) or inspect long-term NIFTY 50 data.
Step 2

Construct Multi-Asset Portfolio Strategies

Core Feature

The real power of FIRE@YovaEngg lies in designing multi-asset allocation strategies. Combine equity funds, debt funds, ETFs, and gold into a unified model and simulate historical outcomes.

1. Profile & Benchmark
Strategy Identity

Give your strategy a recognizable name (e.g. All-Weather 60/20/20) and description. Pick a primary benchmark index (e.g. NIFTY 50, Midcap 150, or 10Y G-Sec) using quick-select chips.

2. Search & Add Schemes
Multi-Asset Allocation

Search for mutual funds, index funds, or gold ETFs using the dynamic search bar. Click any search result to add it directly to your strategy composition list.

3. Target Weight %
Balancing to 100%

Specify percentage weights for each fund, or click Equal Weights to distribute evenly. Ensure total allocation equals 100% and save your strategy.

Portfolios are initialized with ₹10,000 starting capital tested from January 01, 2013 to present. You can alter these parameters anytime during backtesting.

Step 3

Evaluate Dynamic Portfolio Rebalancing

Risk Control

As asset prices fluctuate, portfolio weights drift away from target allocations. Rebalancing systematically sells high-performing assets to purchase lagging ones, locking in gains and containing risk. We support three flexible rebalancing engines:

Rebalancing Method Parameter & Syntax How It Works in Backtesting
Calendar Frequency rebalance_frequency_months (e.g. 12) Evaluated on the first trading day of the configured month interval (e.g. annually every 12 months), restoring all constituents to target weights.
Daily Drift Bands rebalance_drift_percentage
e.g. 10, +10, or -10
Monitored daily. Triggers immediate rebalance when any asset drifts by ≥ threshold:
  • 10: Either direction (|drift| ≥ 10%)
  • +10: Profit-taking trigger (drift ≥ +10%)
  • -10: Buy-the-dip trigger (drift ≤ -10%)
Custom Historical Dates rebalance_dates
e.g. 2020-03-23, 31/12/2021
Rebalances on explicit dates (supports YYYY-MM-DD, DD/MM/YYYY, etc.). Non-trading days roll over to next trading session. Operates on top of frequency or drift rules.
Enable "Capture Rebalance Details" under Analysis Settings to inspect the full audit trail showing pre-rebalance valuations, drift %, interval gains/losses, and reallocated capital.

Step 4

Navigate the Analytics Dashboard

Deep Analytics

The View Detail dashboard provides comprehensive risk, return, and drawdown diagnostics. Here is how to read and interpret the key reports:

Cash Flow Modes

Switch between Lumpsum, Monthly SIP (over configured months), and STP (systematically moving capital from liquid/debt into target assets).

Risk-Adjusted KPIs

Examine Alpha (excess return), Beta (volatility sensitivity), Sharpe Ratio, Sortino Ratio, and Downward Deviation ($R_f = 6\%$).

Correlation Matrix

Toggle Monthly Correlations to inspect rolling 3Y, 5Y, 7Y, and 10Y correlation coefficients between constituents, verifying true portfolio diversification.

Drawdown Auditing

Inspect the Drawdowns table to observe maximum drops, duration spent underwater, and how benchmark/constituent assets held up during the exact same downturns.

Rolling Returns Percentiles (1Y, 3Y, 5Y, 7Y, 10Y)

Rolling returns eliminate point-to-point end-date bias. Inspect the 2.5th percentile as an empirical worst-case scenario, the 50th percentile (Median) for middle expectations, and the 97.5th percentile for bull markets. Toggle Enable Rolling Returns to render time-series trendlines for each rolling window.

Step 5

Plan Independence with Goal Calculators

FIRE Planning

Connect your empirical portfolio backtests with long-term wealth targets using our dedicated financial calculators available under the Tools menu:

Accumulation Phase

Retirement Corpus Calculator

Estimates the required lump sum target on Day 1 of retirement based on your current expenses, inflation, pre-retirement growth, and post-retirement longevity. Recommends a monthly SIP with optional annual step-up % and cap, factoring existing accumulated capital.

Distribution Phase

Corpus to Monthly Income Calculator

Calculates the sustainable, inflation-adjusted monthly income an existing corpus (default ₹50 Lakhs, fully editable) can distribute over a 20–40 year horizon. Shows initial safe withdrawal rate (SWR %), total lifetime payout, and multi-year cash flow milestones.
